Broken after 3 month and customer service extremely bad
I can not recommend this product!
I bought this receiver in December 2009 and had it professionally installed. Within 3 month however it wouldn’t work any longer. I contacted Amazon and they referred me to the manufacturer because the return window had already closed. It took me over a month to finally get a return authorization code that I had to have to return the receiver for repair. I got the money order they needed to pay for the shipping costs from their end, shipped it out on my own costs, and, got it back yesterday (after 3 weeks), with the note that no defect was found. So, I went back to get it reinstalled, and, guess what, still not working. It receives power but that’s it. By now I had the costs of the product (plus s&h) and an extra $50.- for the costs to get it repaired, and still no working product. The manufacturer’s guaranty that Amazon refers to obviously is not worth anything, as you have to pay all the s&h, which can get very expensive. So now I am stuck with having paid over $300.- for a receiver that only worked for 3 month, and will have to buy another receiver (which I will NOT buy through Amazon because of their disastrous return policy).
great product
this item is just what i was looking for, it had everything i was looking for and then some! the sound quality was great and instant upgrade to what i had before, i recommend this produts 2 thumbs up!!
Decent deal
Upon purchasing this head unit I had a problem with the first one I got, a gear in the monitor motor came loose and I had to exchange it. Amazon customer service was very courteous and helpful. When I received my replacement it was defective also, there was an issue with the display on the detachable face. I was again sent a replacement from Amazon, and finally no problems. Overall I am satisfied with the quality, design and function of the unit. I guess I just had bad luck with the my first two! For the price, I would definitely recommend this to anyone – just pay attention and watch for any possible defects when you install it.
Only need TV Tuner to be perfect

Great radio
This radio is capable to do almost anything you need to and is very simple to operate.
Biggest bang for the buck
People can say what they want about how it takes 10 seconds for the ipod load. Whaaaaa It takes 10 seconds to load 14,000 songs on my car stereo. truth betold this deck in a solid performer with great sound. Visually you could ask for more it looks like a factory installed deck. The custom color display lets you set the deck color to your stock lights on the dash. You will not find a better double din deck at this price
Worth each penny you spend on this !!!
If you are looking for a touch screen DVD player with great sound and looks with out shedding tons of bucks, then this is the player you should buy..
I’m using this from past 4months in my car. Its wooing everyone on first glance!!
I plugged in this with my JBL 6″ Component speakers, 12″ woofer and Amplifier.. It shakes the grounds !!
The interface is really easy to use and touch is very responsive.
Browsing through the list is seems bit difficult initially, because the track name wont show up completely, Just beginning of the track name you can see. Even you wait it wont scroll to show entire name. And you are a iphone/ipod user then don’t expect the same kind of touch navigation in this one.
Never mind, once you started using this, these factors doesn’t bother you much
Whatever, for this price its a stealing deal…
Just buy it
Best Buy wanted $450 for this exact same unit.
Item was shipped on time and arrived in perfect condition.
I had to do some dashboard modifications to get it in my F250, but it looks great and works perfectly.
Great…except for a few oversights
I think this is a great unit overall, install was easy, sound quality is great, the touch screen looks nice, and for the price that Amazon is selling it at it’s a good deal.
With all that said though I’d like to point out some noticeable problems with the unit that I wish I had known about before.
First the iPod/USB controls are pretty slow, it can take up to a second (sometimes more) to skip from one song to the next, which is pretty ridiculous and can ruin certain songs that are supposed to flow into each other.
Also, there is no scrolling of text, so if you have a song or album title that doesn’t fit (which a lot of them won’t) then you only see the first however many characters it can show. Scrolling text is not exactly rocket science and is available on most every unit I’ve used so I was really disappointed in that.
Finally, it doesn’t support RDS (RBDS) so when you’re listening to the radio it won’t show station name, artist/song info, etc. That’s a pretty sad oversight for such an advanced unit. Most cheap factory units from auto manufacturers support that at this point, to not have it in such a nice after market unit is a noticeable oversight.
So it looks great (love the ability to customize colors) and sounds great, but functionality-wise is lacking.

A defective product
For the few minutes this device worked it was great. Unfortunately, this is a defective product. I purchased one at Best-Buy, it last for a few hours in the morning but refused to boot up in the afternoon. I replaced it with a brand-new unit from Best Buy and the same issue arose, i.e, failure to boot up after just a few hours of use. All software was immediately updated upon purchase and it initially worked fine, so I it is either defective hardware or defective softeware. Either way, I will be replacing the unit with either a Tom-Tom or a Magellan. I admit my first Garmin GPS unit, a Nuvi 250, worked great until it was stolen. But my very first GPS unit, a Magellan Roadmate 700 still works, more than five years later.
Very good overall
Overall a very good product.
Pet Peeves: My old Garmin Nuvi had a feature that provided for a “ping” sound just prior to a voice prompt coming on – that seems to be absent from the new version (unless I simply cannot find a setting to turn that on) – this was always helpful in getting your attention for a voice prompt.
Road names instead of route numbers – I still fail to understand why they continue to use road and street names instead of route numbers when giving directions (and I’m talking about state and US route numbers). It is common to have intersections and roads without the street name shown on any signs, but the state and US route numbers are always there and are always consistent. Often a state or US route number will change names several times, even within a single county, so I really don’t understand why they don’t just use the route numbers, or at least include the route numbers – this is probably my biggest problem with the Garmins, and it seems like such an obvious, and easily fixable, drawback (maybe other brands have this flaw as well, I don’t know).
Folks! This GPS unit is indeed very nice
I purchased this from BestBuy and I use it primarily on my motorcycle. It has Bluetooth and I have it paired with my helmet speakers. I used the suction mount to mount this onto the plastic display under the handle bar. I display is large enough and you can see it clearly even in direct sun light. I haven’t used all of the features yet but from what I am seeing so far, no problems.
My only complaint is that the battery seems to die suddenly without any warning. Sometime the battery icon disappears and sometime it appears. However, as long as I fully charge the battery before starting my trip, the battery lasts for about 3 hours which is enough for most trips.
I like how the charging port is a standard USB port so you can any USB cable to charge this or in my case, I use my USB iGo tip that I use for my phone.
I got the freeze
Well, I read all the reviews and they didn’t lie. First time out my GPS froze on me and I had a hard time even turning it off and restarting it, and then had to reenter the info. I see so many reviews with this problem. IS Garmin doing anything about it? I’ve only had it a few days and I”m trying to decide whether to keep it. My older 750 has slightly lost its mind, but it works most of the time and it doesn’t freeze. I like that the new one names the streets and may keep it for that reason, but there is some disappointment here and it may turn out to be a mistake.
Good Product & easy to use
Works great right out of the box. Only disappointment is with the Points of Interest. Just for practice we have been using is around our home town and there have been several well established businesses (some as long as 7 years) that are not in the database. Garmin does not seem to provide a way for users to input businesses that are completely missing from the database. Makes me wonder how many things will not be found in unfamiliar cities that we visit!

Nuvi885T
This Garmin Nuvi 885T replaced a Garmin Street Smart C330. The larger screen was a pleasant upgrade from the Street Smart. The Nuvi can pick up GPS in your house, so now I don’t have to be outside when I’m planning trips the night before. I like the Nuvi’s size, graphics, features such as direction uploads from Google Maps or Mapquest, which comes in handy when the Garmin can’t find things that either site has listed. Now for the negative things: The volume is ok but I can’t hear the instructions when I have the radio on, a movie on, or even the windows down on the highway. My Street smart could talk to me over all that noise. The battery on the Nuvi lasts about 2 hours at the most. I used to be able to go about 4 hours on the Street Smart before I had to get the car charger on. So I now drive with the car charger on all the time, I need it anyway to get the MSN Direct to work. MSN Direct has a few gotchas. I happen to live in an area where the signal for MSN Direct is weak so it doesn’t start working until I move a few miles from home. Then it takes an hour or so to update all the information. Traffic, weather, gas prices, etc. Also beware MSN Direct goes offline on Jan 1, 2012. I don’t know what will happen to this feature after that. [...] doesn’t even sell the “T” model any more with MSN I think because of it. Better off getting a “T” that uses FM for traffic.
Tracking while driving I thought was a bit better in my C330. I find it trying to “catch up” to where I really am. Previewing and lane assist is a neat feature, something the Street Smart never had. The maps that are out there for Nuvi are not as up to date as my C330’s is. Street names are not up to date and I keep searching but there are no updates for the Nuvi’s maps at least not for North America.
Would I buy this Garmin again? Yes but not with the MSN Direct, since its expiring and I live in an area where it works sometimes. The extra $100 was not worth it.
I’ve yet to use the voice recoginition. You can save another $100 for a model that doesn’t have it.
Great choice
The Garmin Nuvi 760 specs were just what I was looking for. I bought refurbished to get the low price. It came with all the goodies of a “new” unit and works perfectly. The bluetooth phone system, a feature I especially wanted, works very well, but was a bear to set up. Most of the problem was in the phone I wanted to use which was not on the choice list. (Nokia 6650) Problem had to do with voice “tags” which neither Garmin nor Nokia spent adequate time explaining. (hey, LOTS of people are new to this stuff!!). Once the tagging was done, things started working quite well.
Car charge plug & docking station
I have had nothing but problems since getting this unit. The car charger plug keeps popping the 3A fuse in the wire, Several phone calls to Garmin have not solved the problem yet. I’ve changed several fuses, then they sent me a new docking station which didn’t solve the problem and now they are sending me a new plug in wire.
Note: part of this wire is an antenna to pick up the MSN signal.
Garmin 885T…Simply GREAT!
I will admit upfront this is my first GPS so I have nothing to compare it to. That being said, I don’t know how it could be any easier to use. The speech recognition is great. I can listen to directions and still keep my eyes on the road. I would agree with some of the reviewers that said it would be nice if it gave you the upcoming turn information a little more quickly but I found it sometimes depends on how fast you travelling prior to the turn. Speaking an address instead of typing it in is just awesome. It recognizes my instructions almost perfectly. I use it everyday to find customer addresses in really far out places and it has gotten me right there everytime. I don’t understand the reviews complaining about the volume. I hear the voice responses just fine. Turn down the radio!! It did perform very slowly one morning but I just took out the battery and replaced it and it started back up just fine. I have had it for almost 2 months and it has performed almost flawlessly. I highly recommend it, especially for those who would like to have a gps but are afraid or hesitant to try the technology. The unit is very user friendly and the screen is nice and big and bright. I know MSN traffic is ending in 2011, but I bought the unit for it’s gps capabilities and for the speech recognition and voice activated entries and for that it is unbeatable. Buy it. You’ll love it too.
We like it
I think this is a good product. The screen in particular is a pleasure to view. Its minor problems: It’s a bit slow to react and sometimes the time given before a turn on a highway seems a bit short. That’s about it. Overall we are very satisfied. You do have to get some experience with it before you can use it with ease and enjoy all of its features. It is quite good and something I would recommend.

Very Capable Pure Sinewave Inverter
I’m an electrical engineer and purchased this inverter to have additional backup capabilities, as I already have two marine batteries connected to a backup sump pump and wanted to run minimal equipment during power outages. Power outages aren’t common, but when it happens, we typically experience about an hour long duration.
This is a decent quality, budget inverter. I do agree with other reviewers regarding the power cable connection, but it’s not bad as one can use the cable lug along with the thumb nut to tighten. Some may see the need for hex nuts and use of a wrench, but this may actually be a hazard as posts are very close together (unless battery connection is made last). Regarding the fan, it is thermostatically controlled. It only comes on about when supplying over 500W continuous load. During standby, it draws about 1 amp (12 Watts). Testing the inverter in the garage in 40 degF temp, I could not get the fan to kick on even with 750W continuous load.
Included remote switch is very convenient. More than the actual remote, I use the hard wired switch that is connected to the inverter via supplied control cable. It would have been better to include a GFCI receptacle; I have a plug in GFCI outlet for this added protection. Soft start is very convenient and can start my DeLonghi 50-pint dehumidifier that draws 900 W continuous.
I would highly recommend this inverter. It’s cheap, it would supply power to light loads within the inverter rating. Just purchase #4 AWG minimum size cable. I found purchasing a automotive jumper cable to be cheaper and installing lugs in lieu of purchasing stiff THHN type cable at home supply store. I plan to use the left over of the jumper cable for connection to vehicle battery when I go camping.
NOT a full 1000W but close enough
I have several 1000W inverters in my service trucks and thought the idea of a RF remote would be nice so I stepped away from my usual brand (Xantrex) Xantrex Technologies 806-1000 Prosine 1,000-Watt Inverter and their newer, more value conscious true sine inverter product line which is within $20 of this sunforce unit but lacks the features. This time I bought the sunforce.
First off, testing finished inverter installations, I use a 1050W load (it’s a heat gun with 1000W heater and 50w blower). True, this is MORE than 1000W but all inverters have some surge capacity so it’s never been a problem before. The sunforce unit’s efficiency is within 1% of xantrex, requiring 114-116 AMPS at 12VDC to operate the 1050W load, however the sunforce will shutdown within 3 seconds with an output overload condition, while the xantrex units will drain the battery first.
I stepped the load down to 900W and things were fine, so I’m really going to overlook their slightly over-rated specifications on the inverter because my loads are in the 300-400W range and need clean power. Besides, the value proposition with sunforce’s feature set is still there.
Another pro/con to consider is that the Xantrex units are metal cased with mounting holes, while these are plastic – that may lead you to some innovative mounting solutions, but it’s not a big deal.
Neither Xantrex nor Sunforce has developed a “everything easy to read display” – my -806 model xantrex prosine comes close with a remote mountable on/off plate w/ lcd that shows volts, amps, and watts as a bargraph simultaneously. But the Xantrex LCD display is smaller than some digital watches and can’t be read across the truck cab, which forces me to remote mount it. Sunforce uses BIG digits that are red LED, but it cycles through output voltage, amps, etc by pushing a button – it will only stay on one value for 1 second. The problem is unless you are pressing the button it defaults to AC volts, where battery voltage might be more useful
Sunforce did something really clever. Inverters of this power level are not easy to wire in (4′ of #4 wire is about all you get to the battery before wire losses cut into your power conversion). The knobb-ish looking thing in the upper right of the product photo is a rubber cover for a high current 12VDC socket. You did all that wiring to hook this up, might as well get a cig lighter socket that shares the same big wires.
A good source of wiring is available on amazon and I’ve reviewed them – Cobra CPI-A4000BC AC Power Inverter AWG Cables although if you really need 1000W keep a battery within 4 feet – a second battery like the Optima Batteries 8052-161 D31M BlueTop Dual Purpose Battery optima deep cycle is a good setup as it can be mounted close to the inverter and charged from the vehicle alternator. Be sure to use a battery isolator so that your inverter can not drain the vehicles’ starting battery.
If your use involves ALOT of runtime at 1000W a parallel combination of 2 D31 batteries will run longer without running the engine. For near constant use, use a 124 Amp alternator and you will need to run wires back to the vehicle power system and run the engine to provide power.
The Xantrex series will give you much more surge power – to 1500 W if needed for 30 seconds. Sunforce has created a clever product that comes with 3 remote on/off switches in the package. All inverters have some feature you may want – here it was the remote, some Xantrax models offer AC cutover to battery when an outside power source disappears. You do get alot in this model for a good price. My unit gets daily use and has not had a problem. Best advice is shop around – the old models that were $600-700 have come down to the $200-300 range. Oversize the unit for your use because all AC loads have startup surges, especially lighting loads and motors. I generally double the inverter size.
No matter what brand you end up buying, a TRUE Sinewave inverter like this will give you utility quality power. After nothing but bad experiences with pseudo-sinewave (there are lots of names for it, but NOT real sinewave) units frying expensive equipment over time. Those units are only good for incandescent lights, and even those burn out faster!
Not working reliably
I bought the inverter to use in an RV to power lights, TV/DVD, and other light AC loads. The price on this unit is very attractive so I bought it and checked it out before installing. I tested it under light and maximum loads and even hooked it up to an oscilloscope to verify if it was really a sine wave output. The last thing I did was bring it in the house to power the TV, stereo, computer, DVD, and VHS player simultaneously. (This is still well under 1000W.)
Conclusions:
(1) Powers all loads I’ve thrown at it without a problem (except see #4# including electronics, 1000W electric heater, fluorescent and incandescent lights, and an electric drill.
#2# Has a real sine wave output.
#3# Causes considerable interference to AM radio when used to power the stereo system, but absolutely no interference on the TV or FM radio or anything else.
Strangely, the TV guide function on the cable box stopped operating, but I can’t be sure if the inverter caused this.
But the really bad part:
#4# It has unexplained shutdowns. This usually happens under light loading conditions. The unit shuts down and displays an error code of OST #overload# or 529 #inverter defective#. The unit was not overloaded #not even close) any of the times this has happened. And when it happens, you have to turn it off and wait several hours to turn it back on. I think it has to lose its memory of the error before it will operate again.
I will probably be contacting the manufacturer regarding this problem. The unit is no good to me if it doesn’t work reliably.
Sunforce inverter
Unit worked as expected. Would have liked not to have a remote control and it would have been cheaper. Remote control was worthless to me.
great unit for the price
Great unit for the price. the remote a real plus. Runs my pellet stove with no problem.
